About this deal

Even after a dealer does a forced regen the saturation is set to 80% so that shortly after the car will attempt another regen to get the saturation down further.

Garage have scanned it to reveal two fault codes 4891 and 4892, which both indicate EGR valve probs. OK, update - the glowplug indicator light is no longer flashing on the dash today but now there is a red battery light showing - this comes on after the car has been running for a few minutes! I don't know how old your car is BUT the canbus system on VWs appear to be touchy on battery voltage. Most of the alternatives when this is lit seem to be related to either fuel system or emissions system faults. The switch can be failing intermittently, a VCDS scan should indicate the cause and my money is on the brake light switch!Had the car checked out by an Audi independent and the timing belt was out and luckily no damage to engine.

There is also a sensor on the crankshaft, but I gather if this goes wrong the car will refuse to start regardless of whether it is warm or cold. Eventually, usually after driving on very rough roads, the lights go out - but come back randomly a couple of weeks later.

When I was little my grandfather had a small red plug adaptor that we would plug the lite brite into to make it flash. The had had three other cars in the last month with the same issue however, so it looks like it might be a dodgy fuel batch. Fahad, the manual says to prime the bulb until its hard, start the engine and run it at 1500 revs for about 30 seconds which should cure the air in system.

Not all sensor faults log fault codes but the warning lamp is a good indicator that a fault will be logged. Could it be a glitch or a sign of failure due and is it worth me doing anything at this stage if the lights is back to normal? In my bongo the fuses for internal lights, mirrors etc are connected to the leisure battery and for some reason when the low voltage cutout operates because the battery is discharged, when the engine is started the glowplug light flashes until the battery begins to charge and switches cutout back on and then the light stops flashing and turns off. I dont think you need the engine running, just keep priming the bulb above the filter till it gets rock solid, run the car for a minute and then pump it again till its hard, hopefully that should clear any air in the system.flashing glow plug light can be a general fault, get it read with a simple diagnostic tool ,most common faults are faulty injector, egr valve or brake light switch(check your brake light function yourself by pressing brake pedal n see if lights come on). Occassionally a problem kicks in where the car decides not to start - the engine warning light comes on and the glow plug light flashes, the car turns over fine, but won't fire. When the regeneration is ongoing, the rpm at idle stay at around 1000 and the start/stop is disabled.

It's a constant race between making things idiot-proof, and the universe making better idiots. In other climates where starting everyday at less than -10, they are needed, where over here, they just help reduce wear on the engine on the occasional cold start. I changed my fuel filter last month, car was built May 2012, Date on the fuel filter was 4/4/2012, so it had never been changed, it should ahve been chnaged several times at services.
